Lecture by Dr. Dr. Felix Wick at the ÖGZMK Kärnten: “Bone Augmentation in the Dental Practice”

On Tuesday, 16 June 2026, Dr. Dr. Felix Wick gave a lecture in Klagenfurt at the invitation of the ÖGZMK Kärnten. The topic of the lecture was “Bone Augmentation in the Dental Practice – Techniques for Everyday Use”.

The focus of the lecture was on basic techniques of bone augmentation, medically referred to as augmentation. Bone augmentation is an important part of implant dentistry as dental implants require a sufficient volume of stable jawbone in order to heal securely and withstand long-term functional loading.

After tooth loss, inflammation, periodontitis or a prolonged period without teeth, the jawbone may recede. In such cases, targeted bone augmentation may be necessary to create the conditions for a stable and long-lasting implant-supported restoration.

Dr. Dr. Felix Wick provided the participating colleagues with a practical overview of established bone augmentation procedures. Topics included guided bone regeneration, sinus lift procedures in the upper jaw, socket preservation after tooth extraction, as well as the use of modern biomaterials and membrane techniques.

Particular emphasis was placed on practical application in everyday dental practice: Which technique is suitable for which initial clinical situation? When can an implant be placed at the same time as bone augmentation? And when is a two-stage approach — first performing bone augmentation and placing the implant at a later date — the more appropriate option?

The event took place at the BKS headquarters in Klagenfurt and was approved as part of the continuing dental education programme of the Austrian Dental Chamber.
